Canton School Board
The Canton R-V Board of Education met on June 12, 2023 in the Canton R-V Library Media Center Conference Room. The next regular meeting is scheduled for July 24, 2023.
The Board discussed the following items in the consent agenda: meeting minutes, transfers, amendments, building principal reports, attendance, lunch, and safety reports. Following the consent agenda, the Board authorized the payment of the monthly bills.
Superintendent Uhlmeyer presented the monthly financial report to the Board of Education. The balance in Funds 10-60 as of 05/31/2023 was $8,860,913.04. This was a $4,522,260.00 increase from the previous fiscal year. The unrestricted balance in Fund 10 – General on 5/31/23 was $2,761,450.42, which was an increase of $721,386.68 from the previous year. As of May 31, 2023, Canton R-V School District had 58.46% of its ESSER funds remaining totaling $1,234,788.75.
During reports, the Board of Education was presented with the finalized attendance data for the 2022-2023 school year. Canton Elementary students ended the 2022-2023 school year with an average daily attendance percentage of 93.5%. Students enrolled at Canton High School ended the 2022-2023 school year with an average daily attendance percentage of 92.7%. The Board of Education was also be informed about the recent interest rate notice from Peoples Bank. The Board of Directors was also informed that 100% of the school bus fleet passed the Missouri State Highway Patrol annual bus inspection for 2022-2023. Superintendent Uhlmeyer also reported that the District will be switching time clock management systems in July for hourly employees. Finally, Superintendent Uhlmeyer discussed several items and projects related to the $100,000 school safety grant that the District received in May of 2023.
In current business, the Board approved the following items: Moving the July 2023 regular meeting to July 24, 2023. Adoption of Missouri Consultants for Education policies and regulations Policy 3230, Policy 4130, Policy 4412, Regulation 0320, and Regulation 6190. Overnight trip for FBLA Nationals in Atlanta, GA from June 26th through July 1. Resolution to adopt the Lewis Co. Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. Amend the FY23 budget to actual after the close of business on June 30, 2023. FY24 budget. PDC Goals and Objectives for 2023-2024. Meal prices for 2023-2024. Elementary Handbook for 2023-2024. Secondary Handbook for 2023-2024
In executive session, the Board discussed personnel. The Board of Education approved the following: Hiring Taylor McKinney as a paraprofessional; Cora Schaefer as a paraprofessional; Jake DeCoster as a volunteer coach for boys’ and girls’ soccer; Doug Wilson as a volunteer coach for boys’ basketball.
The Canton R-V Board of Education met on May 30, 2023, electronically via Zoom Conferencing for a special meeting. In executive session, the Board discussed personnel. The Board of Education approved the following items: Resignation from Carla Eagan for teaching duties. And the Hiring of the following: Amber Cousins as a 3rd grade teacher; Lyndon Alderton as a 6-12 grade Vocal and Instrumental Music teacher; Christopher Brotherton as a 7-12 grade Business teacher; Lyndon Alderton for Secondary Music extra duties and Christopher Brotherton for FBLA extra duties
