Mike lived a life defined by hard work, quiet kindness, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors and the farming way of life. A lifelong farmer, he devoted countless hours to the land he loved and spent more than 30 years helping at Caldwell's. Farming wasn't just his occupation—it was his passion. He especially enjoyed working the fields with John Deere tractors, particularly the John Deere 4320 and 3010. Back in the day, fellow farmers and truckers knew him by his CB handle, Long Haired Farmer.
When he wasn't farming, Mike could often be found outdoors enjoying God's creation. He loved turkey hunting, deer hunting, and fishing, finding peace and contentment in the woods and on the water. He also enjoyed reloading ammunition and spending time shooting guns. Mike had a knack for growing things. He enjoyed raising sweet corn, tomatoes, and cucumbers, always happy to share the fruits of his labor with others.
A devoted member of Bluff Springs United Methodist Church, Mike's faith was an important part of his life. Mike enjoyed gathering with friends for a meal at Saint's Avenue Restaurant. He appreciated life's simple pleasures and had a sweet tooth for Nutty Buddy bars and frosted oatmeal cookies, which he insisted were best kept in the freezer. A hearty meal of white country gravy was always a favorite, and he never passed up an opportunity to enjoy a meal at the catfish restaurant in Arbela.
Mike also knew how to enjoy himself. He loved dancing at the Eagles with Charlotte while listening to the Rising Suns Band. He was also a longtime member of a bowling league in Canton, where he spent many years enjoying friendly competition and the camaraderie of fellow bowlers.
Known by many as a gentle giant, Mike possessed a quiet strength, a generous heart, and a humble spirit that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. His kindness, steady work ethic, love for the outdoors, dedication to farming, and enjoyment of fellowship with others will be fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched. His legacy lives on in the fields he farmed, the gardens he tended, and the many friendships he cultivated throughout his life.
