Emma Lou Heidbreder, 91, of Quincy, died July 1, 2026 at Curtis Creek Senior Living in Quincy.
She was born on July 16, 1934, in LaGrange, Missouri, a daughter of Russell C. and Emma Crandal Brose. Emma Lou married David H. Heidbreder on November 7, 1987 in St. John’s Episcopal Church. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2017.
Emma Lou was a long-time and active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, and later at St. John’s Cathedral on Payson Road. Her faith was reflected in her quiet service, as she spent many years serving on the Altar Guild at both churches. She was a former member of Quincy Service League, and the Quincy Country Club, where she served on the women’s golf committee.
She worked in the Fine China department at Bergner’s and enjoyed an active social life. Emma Lou loved playing bridge, especially couples bridge with her husband, David, and women’s bridge with friends at the Quincy Women’s City Club. She also enjoyed golfing, traveling, and spending her winters in Florida. Above all, Emma Lou treasured time with her family. She especially loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her great joy throughout her life.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Gnuse and Barbara (David) Freiburg, both of Quincy, Ill.; a son, Charles (Michele) Gnuse of Lewistown, Mo.; two step-children, James (Dana) Heidbreder, and Susan (Steven) Kreiger; nine grandchildren, Melissa Wiseman of Sandy, Utah, Jennifer (Jamie) Blaesing, Quincy, Ill., Dr. Luke Freiburg, Chicago, Laura Freiburg, Dallas, Tx., Lisa (Matt) Maas, and Logan Freiburg, both of Quincy, Ill.; Emily Gnuse and Michael Gnuse, both of Canton, Mo., and Mark Gnuse, Lewistown, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Keaton Wiseman and Easton Maas; a sister, Barbara Ann Robbins of Dallas, Tx.; and a niece and nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother-in-law, Warren Robbins, and a step-daughter and Sandra (Bill) Cantrell.
A private Prayer Service and Graveside will be conducted by Rev. J.L. Lawrence III.
Burial: Greenmount, Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois
