ROBERT WHITMER

Robert Lee Whitmer, 79, died May 16, 2016 at Country Aire Retirement Estates in Lewistown, Mo. He was born Dec. 24, 1936 at El Paso, Illinois, a son of Walter and Mary Ellen Robbins Whitmer.

He was married to Christa Rupp on Jan. 20, 1961 in Esslingen, Germany. He served in the United States Army as an engineer from Jan. 27, 1959 to Aug. 31, 1964. He was a member of Lewistown American Legion Post 578. He served as Lewis County Sheriff from 1981 to 1993. He was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving is his wife, Christa Rupp Whitmer of Monticello, Mo., three children, Christina MeGee and Wilbur Cottrell of Monticello, Karen Paul of Ewing, and Eric Whitmer of Warrensburg, Mo.; sister, Mary Ellen Koch of Quincy; grandchildren, Danielle and John Keeler of Kansas City, Robert (RC) and Amanda MeGee of Quincy, Amber Whitmer and Derek Reams of Edgerton, Mo., Lee and Kim Brewer of Ewing, Rachel Whitmer of Platte City, Mo; great grandchildren, Ayden Brewer and Elora Brewer of Ewing, Zander MeGee of Quincy, Keegan Brewer of Ewing; as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Mary Ellen Whitmer and his son, Danny Whitmer.

Graveside services with military honors by American Legion Post 578 of Lewistown were held May 21, 2016 in Little Mountain Cemetery at Monticello, Mo., with Dan Campbell officiating.

The family suggests memorials be made to Country Aire Retirement Estates, Hospice of Northeast Missouri, or Hester Community Church.
