Fishing Derby

The annual LaGrange Lions Club fishing derby was held June 6 at Wakonda State Park. Children were awarded prizes for the biggest fish, the most fish caught, and the smallest fish. Pictured are several of the children who won top prizes. Over 85 children participated and enjoyed grilled hot dogs prepared and served by LaGrange Lions Club members. Whitetails Unlimited provided many prizes and C.L. Feldkamp had a drawing and every fisherman received a nice prize. This event was founded by the late Russel Heindselman, who encouraged the young and old to enjoy nature, and have a relaxing, lifelong activity of fishing. The event is also sponsored each year by Wakonda State Park.
