Leslie Ann Greenslaugh, 62, of Canton, Mo., died May 20, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage, Ill. The family will host a celebration of life at a later date.
Leslie was born January 1, 1964, in Carthage, Ill., to Brian Newell and Donna Zimmerman Newell. She married Dallas Smeltser in 1979 in Wayland, Mo. He survives. She later married Larry Greenslaugh in 1992 in Florida. He survives.
Survivors include her mother, Donna Newell of Canton, Mo., children, Hydie (Thomas) Hopper of Temple, Tex., Dallas (Stephanie) Smeltser of Hewitt, Tex., Desiree Greenslaugh of Hamilton, Ill., grandchildren, Destini, Kora, Creed, Alexis, Londyn, Jazzlyn, great grandchildren, Layne, Daisy, Logan, Claira, siblings, Laura (Kevin) Duncan of Canton, Mo., Linda Duncan (Gary Golden) of Canton, Mo., Steven (Sandy) Newell of Dyer, Ind., Brian (Caroline) Newell of N.C., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leslie was preceded in death by her father, brother, Michael Newell, and sister, Leasa Newell Jones.
Leslie had a deep love for all animals, especially horses, and found great joy in being surrounded by her family and friends. Known for her warm heart and welcoming spirit, she was a talented decorator who took pride in creating a beautiful and inviting home. Leslie loved hosting gatherings where no one ever left hungry, and there were always pies or her lasagna waiting to be shared around the table.
She enjoyed spending her time thrifting, visiting auctions, antiquing, and exploring garage sales, always hoping to discover a special hidden treasure. Leslie appreciated the simple joys in life, from watching westerns to reading her Bible and admiring turquoise jewelry, which reflected her love of western style and tradition. Her kindness, generosity, and ability to make others feel at home will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Leslie was a Christian by Faith.
