Here are some key environmental bills filed during last weeks session

JEFFERSON CITY — With the Missouri General Assembly returning after a one-week break, many bills await hearings and votes.
Here are some of the environmental bills that have been filed this session and their status:
Senate Bill 849
Sponsor: Sen. Cindy O’Laughlin, R-Shelbina
What would it do: Stop construction of solar projects until December 2027. Require the Department of Natural Resources to create rules and regulations concerning environmental concerns — placement and operation. If these rules and regulations are not put in place before the end date, the halt on construction will continue.

House Bill 2122, Missouri Nuclear Clean Power Act
Sponsor: Rep. John Black, R-Marshfield
What would it do: Allow utility companies to charge customers based on the costs of in-process construction of nuclear and natural gas plants. The amount of the charges would be determined by the state Public Service Commission.

Senate Bill 1005
Sponsor: Sen. Kurtis Gregory, R-Marshall
What would it do: Provides all pesticides that are labeled in compliance with EPA regulations have sufficient warning labels regarding cancer. It would not grant full immunity to pesticide companies.

House Bill 2844, Paraquat Ban and Environmental Research Act of 2026
Sponsor: Rep. Sherri Gallick, R-Belton
What would it do: Prohibits paraquat, a toxic pesticide, in Missouri starting in January 2027. The Department of Agriculture would be required to compile a list of how paraquat has been used and publish it.

House Bill 3528, Missouri Environmental Exposure Early Cancer Detection Act
Sponsor: Rep. Tricia Byrnes, R-Wentzville
What would it do: Would put a program in place to detect cancer in people who have been exposed to toxins. This is for people residing, attending school or working in contaminated areas. It would also create an advisory council to identify at-risk populations.

Senate Bill 1427
Sponsor: Sen. Kurtis Gregory, R-Marshall
What would it do: It would repeal provisions against owning, maintaining or operating water contaminants.

House Bill 3150
Sponsor: Rep. Brad Christ, R-St. Louis
What would it do: Stop vehicle emissions checks and emission programs by January 2028.

Senate Bill 1595
Sponsor: Sen. Tracy McCreery, D-Olivette
What would it do: Repeal provisions that local government cannot enact rules on the agriculture sector that are different or more stringent than the state government's regulations.

Senate Bill 1725
Sponsor: Sen. Doug Beck, D-Affton
What would it do: Prohibit the manufacturing, distribution and selling of firefighting or fire-suppressing foams that PFAs, long-lasting chemicals, have been intentionally added to beginning in January 2028.

House Bill 3295
Sponsor: Rep. Steve Butz, D-St. Louis
What would it do: Add provisions to the selection of committee members for the Clean Water Commission of Missouri — one member knowledgeable about agriculture, one member knowledgeable about mining or industry, one member knowledgeable about publicly-owned wastewater treatment sites and four members representing the public.
