SHELBY J. DENT

Shelby Jean Dent, 89, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Stonebridge Senior Living. She was born February 21, 1937, in Knox City, Mo., the daughter of the late Stanley and Ruth (Tarpein) Miner. On February 14, 1955, she was united in marriage to Donald Dennis Dent in LaBelle, Mo., who preceded her in death.
Shelby was a woman of many talents. In her early years, she was a devoted homemaker and an avid gardener. She served as the Secretary for the LaGrange Chamber of Commerce and was the co-owner of Twins Antiques. A gifted creator, Shelby was known for her handmade clothing and beautiful dried flower arrangements. In her later years, her greatest joy was visiting with her family, along with cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs. She was often found sitting on her porch, always ready with a wave and a warm visit for neighbors and friends.
She is survived by three children: Donald Dent Jr. of Knox City, Mo., Randy (Tammy) Dent Sr. of Jefferson City, Mo., and Cherilyn (Scott) Wearmouth of Waukee, Ia; one sister, Shirley Shouse of Edina, Mo.; one brother, Stanley "Junior" Miner of Donna, Tx; eight grandchildren: Emily Dent, Amy Dent, Dennis Dent, Randal Dent Jr., Jason Dent, Sarah Dent, Chris Wearmouth, and Katy (Wearmouth) Hoffman; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Mo. 
Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 7, 2026, followed by the funeral service at 11:45 AM with Pastor Paul Harvey officiating. A graveside service will follow at 12:45 PM at Bee Ridge Cemetery.
Casket Bearers: Randal Dent Jr., Jason Dent, Dennis Dent, Chris Wearmouth, Avery Dent, and Levi Dent.
Honorary Casket Bearers: Travis Black, and Shannon and Julie Schrimpf of Jefferson City, MO.
