DOROTHY KACKLEY

December 17, 2025

Dorothy “Dottie” May Kackley died December 10, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
Dottie was born on June 23, 1941, in Maywood, Mo., to James Gideon Lair and Dorothy May Katzell. She was previously married to Ira Kackley. He preceded her in death February 2021. Together they had four children.
Survivors include her longtime companion, J.L. Jones of LaGrange, Mo., her children, Larry (Brenda) Kackley of Quincy, Ill., Charyl (Gary) Liesen of LaGrange, Mo., Connie Jo Hollensteiner of Quincy, Ill., grandchildren, Christopher Kackley, Jessica Crosby, Nicole (Kye) Echternkamp, Joshua (Ivy) Dietrich, Brody (Emmy) Hollensteiner, Brock (Hayley) Hollensteiner, several great grandchildren, brother, Leslie ( Dariva) Lair of Quincy, Ill., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Barbara Myers, Richard Lair, James Lair, Forest Lair, Don Lair, and her son, Daryl Kackley, which she has missed and waited 50 long years to be reunited with.
Dottie’s work experience spanned from her days working at Motorola, Glenair, and the Safety Belt factory, her talented upholstery work. She most treasured her work as a nanny, caring for several children as if they were her own grandchildren.
Dottie was an ornery soul with a beautiful smile and a heart big enough to hold everyone she loved. They could go to her for anything—always dependable, always genuine, and ready with a listening ear. She enjoyed the quiet comforts of life, including numerous hours making beautiful quilts for those she loved, watching birds in her yard - keeping an eye out for the bright red Cardinals, and tending to her outdoor flowers, especially the white and dark purple irises.
She loved the magic of Christmas, the glow of lights, and the beauty of freshly fallen snow. She enjoyed traveling with J.L. to Aruba, the Dominican Republic, and Cancun. He brought great love, adventure and comfort to her life.
Above all else, Dottie truly loved and adored her grandchildren. She cherished every moment spent with them and let them experience the simple joys of childhood, especially if that meant getting dirty. She knew the dirt would wash off & the memories would last forever.
Dottie will be remembered for her strong spirit, her generosity, and the love she gave so freely. Her presence made life brighter, and her memory will continue to warm the hearts of those who knew her.
Dottie was a Christian by faith and found peace in knowing that she would be reunited with those gone before her.
