MYRON ‘IKE’ BARKLEY
December 06, 2025
Myron Lynn “Ike” Barkley, 74, died at his home in Canton, Missouri on December 4,
2025, surrounded by family and friends.
Ike was born in Quincy, Illinois, January 3, 1951, a son of Harold and Esther (Schone) Barkley.
As a youth, he attended Emerson grade school. As a left-handed first baseman for the Little
League baseball team, The Prairie Farms Devils, his right-hand reach gave him a slight edge over
a runner when stretching to make an out.
In 1963 the family moved to Taylor, Missouri. He graduated from Palmyra High School in 1969.
After marriage to Debbie Heimer, Ike found employment with Electric Wheel Company in
Quincy but eventually became a construction worker from which he retired. As a young man,
Ike was an avid coon hunter, tramping the hills and valleys of Northeast Missouri in pursuit of
his prey. He owned a number of motorcycles and classic automobiles, including a restored 1955
Chevy.
After retirement Ike enjoyed travel, especially Jamaica and other Caribbean isles, but in later
years, found a second home in Costa Rica where he and a good friend, Clyde Wilson, resided off
and on.
Ike possessed a magnetic personality, an engaging smile and a great sense of humor, memories
which will console us all. He was a friend to many; and enemy to none. A note of gratitude goes
out to Hospice of Northeast Missouri for what they do so well – providing guidance,
compassion and dignity.
Ike was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his daughter, Erin (Andy) Johnson of Maywood, Mo.; grandsons, Alex
(Chelsey) Johnson and Eli Johnson, both of Maywood; and great- grandchildren, Rhett and Navy
Johnson. He is also survived by siblings, Jeannie (Don) Norfolk of Quincy, Il., Cleve (Lois) Barkley
of Quincy, Il. and Alvin (Sharon) Barkley of Moberly, Mo.; one nephew, three nieces and long-
time girlfriend, Jeannie Clay of Canton, Mo. and her daughters, La’Kia and Ta’Meika, and
granddaughter, Na’Leigha and a close friend, Shawn Clay.
Memorial visitation: Tuesday, December 9, 2025 from 4 until 8 p.m. at Arnold’s Funeral Home
in Canton, Missouri with closing remarks at 8 p.m. by Minister Kent Heimer. Honorary
Pallbearers: Eli Johnson, Alex Johnson, Shawn Clay, Kory Gay and Clyde Wilson.
“It’s been a good ride.”
