Greenhands Inducted
December 05, 2025
The Canton FFA Chapter hosted its Fall Chapter Awards Banquet on Thursday, November 20, 2026. The evening began with a carry-in dinner provided by FFA members and their families. Following the meal, the Canton FFA Officer team recognized FFA members for their outstanding dedication to the organization. Recipients included National Convention Delegates, Trap Team members, and Fall speaking participant Will Clark.
Following the awards ceremony, the Canton FFA Officer team recognized the newest Canton FFA members, the Greenhands. This event is to induct first-year FFA members into the chapter. There were 12 newly inducted Greenhands. Members met specific requirements such as learning about the FFA state and national organizations, creating a supervised agricultural experience, learn and explaining the Motto, Salute, and Creed, describing and explaining the meaning of the FFA colors and emblem, understanding the code of ethics and the proper use of the FFA Jacket, and demonstrating an understanding of the organization’s history. The final requirement on the Greenhand Degree application is that members must own or have access to the Official FFA Manual or the FFA Student Handbook.
Canton FFA officers presented each Greenhand with their own copy of the Official FFA Manual and FFA Brotherhood card. Canton FFA Advisor Lezlie Durst read these words to the candidates from the Greenhand Degree ceremony: “ The pin worn by Greenhands is made of bronze. Because of its hardness and endurance, bronze has been used for ages by those who sought a better substitute for crude stone instruments. May those qualities of hardness and endurance carry you far in our organization. Although you have done well and merit this recognition, let me remind you that there are heights yet to be attained. Just as there are metals more precious than bronze, there are rarer and more precious laurels to be won in our organization. The silver pin of the Chapter FFA Degree and the golden charm of the State FFA Degree await those who earn them. To attain these higher degrees, you must possess rare and golden qualities. You must be malleable, but never crushed; ductile, but never drawn into anything base or dishonorable; glowing with enthusiasm, but unaltered by the heat of conflict. It is my sincere wish that some of you will eventually be awarded the golden key of the American FFA Degree. Your future is before you. Through hard work and wise decisions, you can attain the highest place in our organization so eagerly sought by all worthy members.”
President Austin Weaver welcomed members into the organization and encouraged them with these words: “The FFA organization practices agricultural leadership, citizenship, and cooperation. If you develop your abilities, you may become a leader in this organization. We need you, and the country needs strong leadership.” Just as the FFA Creed states, “I Believe in the Future of Agriculture,” our Canton FFA Chapter believes in the future of these FFA members to develop their premier leadership, personal growth, and career success.
Canton FFA Greenhand Candidates are: Tucker McCutchan, Audralynn Morlang, Raymond Smith , Mark Keifer, Owen Frese, Nathanael Thrower, Braydon Feldkamp, Laiten Lay, Joseph Ellison , Landon Shaffer, Jaycob Kelley, Lane Nelson
