C-SC Homecoming 2025 Distinguished Alumna - Dr. Alexis Gumm

Dr. Alexis (Westerhausen) Gumm ‘11 is a distinguished medical professional specializing in pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric hepatology, and liver transplantation. Dr. Gumm earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Chemistry from Culver-Stockton College and went on to earn her medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford, IL. Dr. Gumm splits her time between clinical work and research, currently securing over $200,000 in grant funding to pursue her research passion, Fontan-associated liver disease. Dr. Gumm, along with being a physician, is also an Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Beyond professional achievement, Alexis is a proud wife and mother of 3. She enjoys Friday night football games, as she cheers on her husband, Justin Gumm ‘09, head coach at Sussex Hamilton High School. Alexis’ contributions to the medical field and her community have significantly impacted the lives of many, embodying the values celebrated at C-SC.
