KEVIN VAN METER

October 22, 2025

Kevin Layne Van Meter, 71, of Independence, Missouri, passed away at Center Point Medical Center on October 11, 2025. He was born in Quincy, Illinois, to the late J.W. and Maxine Van Meter.
Kevin is survived by his children: Charity Witt (Dan), Angela Suddarth (Heath), Adam Van Meter (Noelle), and Joey Van Meter. He is also survived by his siblings: his identical twin brother Kent Van Meter (Carol), Allen Van Meter (Nancy), Joy Buchok (Steve), and Karen Lake (Larry); and was preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Jansen (Gary).
Kevin’s legacy continues through his grandchildren Kelli Jones (Kyle), Samantha Herren, Rachel Williams, Katie Bevelo (Brendan), Thomas Herren, Madelynn Van Meter, Seth Suddarth, Jayden Suddarth, and Noah Van Meter, as well as his great-grandchildren Grace, Kylie, Karson, and Candon.
Over the years, Kevin worked as both a farmer and a truck driver. He enjoyed playing bingo and was always ready to celebrate with a good steak dinner among friends. No one was ever a stranger to Kevin—he could strike up a conversation with anyone over a cup of coffee and had a way of brightening someone’s day with his quick wit and a bit of twisted humor.
Kevin’s faith was an important part of his life. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 25th at First Baptist Church of Lewistown.
He will be remembered for his humor, his laid-back nature, and the love he shared with his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the First Baptist Church of Lewistown, 300 S Elm St, Lewistown, MO 63452 in memory of Kevin.
