The Immanuel Methodist Church of Canton has a group, The United Women of Faith, whose project for the last three years has been offering a Peace meal to citizens on the third Thursday of every month. Member Martha Jones learned about a peace meal several years ago as a project and brought the idea to members and they decided it would be a needed service.
Once a month, a meal is offered, prepared by the ladies, to offer fellowship and a home cooked meal to anyone, especially senior citizens. This presents the opportunity to have a nice meal and socialize. The program is self-supporting. The ladies ask for a donation equivalent to what a person would tip at a restaurant. Members of the church provide desserts. There is usually a crowd of 30 to 40 people attending. Carry-out meals are available for those that are homebound.
The next meal will be Nov. 20 featuring a ham dinner.
