BlockFest at Canton Library
July 16, 2025
Canton Public Library is partnering with Canton R-V Parents as Teachers to bring the popular BlockFest program to the library on Thursday, July 17 from 6 to 7 PM. Kids of all ages and their families are invited to practice their stacking, sorting, tower-building, connecting and construction skills (along with destruction and toppling skills) with blocks of all kinds.
On hand will be blocks ranging from giant cardboard bricks, to Legos and Unifix Cubes for nimbler fingers. Also available will be foam blocks, wood blocks, Duplos, alphabet blocks and more. For older kids and adults looking for a challenge, KEVA planks will be on hand to construct anything from simple towers to ball runs, domes, and more.
Beth Weaver, Canton R-V Parents as Teachers educator, says, “If I had only one resource to help kids learn, it would be blocks.” Beth says building with blocks strengthens all four domains of childhood development: language skills, social/emotional skills, cognitive skills, and motor skills, both fine motor and gross motor.
“With blocks, kids can learn to follow directions, work with others, practice patterning and sorting, learn to count, stretch up tall, or use their hands and fingers to grasp and manipulate small blocks.” Most of all, at BlockFest, kids and their families will have an evening of fun!
Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a parent education and family support program serving families throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten, usually age 5.
The library is located at 403 Lewis Street in Canton. Check for updates and information on Facebook at YourCanton Library, visit www.cantonmopubliclibrary.org, or call 573-288-5279.
This project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.
