MICHAEL HAUGG

Michael James Haugg, 81 of Canton, Missouri died September 3, 2024 at the Country Aire Retirement Center at Lewistown, Missouri.
Michael was born on March 21, 1943 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Otto and Mary (Hogan) Haugg. He moved to Canton, Mo., and attended Culver Stockton College receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in 1971.
After college he went to Marine Corps basic training at Camp Lejeune, in Jacksonville N.C. and is a veteran of the USMC where he had the rank of corporal.
 He taught school and did some coaching at high school level for some time but most of his career was spent as an electrician for Bleigh Construction where he developed many friendships and everyone referred to him as “Spud”.
 He was united in Marriage on October 31, 1981 in Canton Mo., to his wife of 43 years, Joyce (Vincent) Haugg. He not only gained a wife but two sons and a daughter.
Surviving is his wife Joyce Haugg of Canton, Mo., son Thomas R Ward and wife Connie of Quincy, Ill.,  son Rodney Ward and wife Chris of Quincy, Ill., daughter Krista Chinnis- Snodgrass and husband Aaron Snodgrass of Columbia, Mo. Grandchildren are Ryan Chinnis, wife Megan  and great granddaughter Adalee of Columbia, Mo., Alec Chinnis of Columbia, Mo., Connor Chinnis of Columbia, Mo., Carley Chinnis of Columbia, Mo., Kayla Ward of Jacksonville, Ill., Dalton Lauder of Quincy, Ill.,  Christopher Smith, wife Erin and great grandchildren Silas and Quenten of Magnolia, Tx. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Mike was always known for his compassionate nature, selfless spirit and witty sense of humor. He was a man of faith and attended Canton First Baptist Church for many years. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and offer words of encouragement to whomever needed it. Mike was an active member and treasurer of the Mark Twain Bass Masters Club and he played a lead role in Alcoholics Anonymous in the Canton area for over 30 years. Mike touched many lives with his dedication to these groups.
Everyone who knew Mike knew of his love of fishing and being outdoors. His greatest love was for his family and that was evident to see. He was “Papa” to many and he was the biggest fan and supporter of all of his grandkids activities that they were involved in. There was not an event that they were in that you would not see him there cheering them on. They were all his greatest joy.
Mike was proceeded in death by his parents, Otto and Mary, who he is now celebrating with in heaven!
Mikes personality brought warmth and unexplainable joy to everyone that he encountered even his “not so good days”. Mikes memory will remain in the hearts of his family, friends and all those who were honored to have had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy will live on in generations to come through his example of what a good person looks like and by his inspiration of kindheartedness, generosity, and unforgettable spirit.
Funeral services were held September 6, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Canton, Missouri with Rev. Brian Stone officiating. Visitation was held prior to services.  Burial with military honors by Otto Bruner Post#170 was in Forest Grove Cemetery at Canton. Pallbearers: Thomas “Rusty” Ward, Rodney Ward, Ryan Chinnis, Alec Chinnis, Connor Chinnis and Aaron Snodgrass.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Canton.
