CARL SIMMONS

Carl L. Simmons, Jr. 76 of Canton, Mo., died April 8, 2016 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

The son of Carl L. and Mary J. Loder Simmons, Sr. was born December 10, 1939 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa.

He maried Sandra M. East on August 30, 1968 at Quincy, Ill. She died November 4, 2010.

Carl was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canton. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the U.S.S. Coral Sea. He was also served in the Keokuk National Guard in 1957 and was a member of the Canton-LaGrange V.F.W. and the Local # 143 Labor Union of the LaGrange Foundry. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and was honored to be able to go on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2015.

He is survived by a daughter, Gena Scott and husband Jeff of Williamstown, Mo., son, Rick Simmons and wife, Stephanie of Lewistown, Mo.; four grandchildren, Jonnette Ott of Memphis, Mo., Craig Ott of Williamstown, Mo., Jessica Ott of Canton, Mo. and Brady Simmons of Canton, Mo.; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Delores Brown of Lansing, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Teresa Simmons, brother, Richard Simmons, and two sisters, Rose Marie Hester and Catherine Elston.

Graveside services and inurnment will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 3 p.m. at the Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton with Rev. Brian Stone officiating. Military honors presented by American Legion Otto Bruner Post 170.

Visitation will be held Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Canton.

Memorials may be made to the Lewis County Nursing Home Auxiliary.
