Lewis County will have a General Municipal Election on April 2, 2024.

Polling places include Methodist Church in Canton; LaGrange City Hall for LaGrange and Union Township, Ewing R-4 Fire Station for Ewing and Durham, Lewistown Fire Station for Lewistown, Steffenville, and Salem Township; LaBelle Fire Station, LaBelle and Monticello Courthouse, Monticello, Dickerson and Lyon Townships. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Absentee voting in the County Clerk’s office until 5 p.m. the day before the election, Monday, April 1. The County Clerk’s office will also be open on Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 8 a.m. until noon, for absentee voting.

Canton Public Library is seeking a tax increase of $0.22 over the present $0.2348 tax to maintain the general operation of the Canton Public Library and improve library services.

The Ewing-Maywood R-4 Fire Protection District is seeking an increase of $.0.05 per $100 assessed valuation over the current approved rate for the purpose of providing revenues for the operation of the Ewing-Maywood R-4 Fire Protection District.

The City of LaBelle proposition is a $0.3500 cent tax levy on one hundred dollar assessed valuation for general municipal purposes to be designated for street repairs and maintenance, for four years. LaBelle also has Beth Clay as candidate for North Ward, two-year term, and two positions for alderman, south ward, two year term, with candidates, Sindey Doscher, Sam G. Wilson and Colt Jennings.

Lewis County Nursing Home has a write in position open for sub-district 2, three-year term. Frances Spratt is on the ballot for Sub-district 5, a three-year term. The City of Canton will elect a new mayor, Terry Fretwell, Raymond Merida and Don Cibert are candidates. Canton Alderman Ward One candidates are: Teresa L. McKenzie and Daniel Turner. Canton Alderman, Ward 2, candidates are: Jim Crenshaw, Wesley Lay and Justin McDermott. Jeff Janney is running unopposed for Canton Alderman, Ward 3, all two-year terms, and Alderman Ward 3, Rick Martin, for one year term.

There will not be an election for the following openings, as the number of candidates who filed, are equal to the number of positions open.
