JOVONNA ALLENSWORTH SPURGEON

Jovonna Allensworth Spurgeon,72, of Canton, Mo., died February 13, 2024 at her residence in Canton.
She was born July 27, 1951 in Kirksville, Mo., a daughter of Johnnie Andy and Eva Lucille Gates Degard. She married Michael Jay Allensworth on June 12, 1970 and he passed away September 2, 1992. She later married Jimmie Wayne (Hopsing) Spurgeon on July 22, 1995 and he passed away March 20, 2008.
She had been employed at Culver-Stockton College for over 25 years in housekeeping. She was good hearted and liked helping family and friends. Jovonna enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and family, reading, crossword books and crossword puzzles. She liked older shows on TV, especially “Little House on the Prairie” and soap operas. She liked the Seattle Seahawks and drinking sweet tea.
She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Hudnut (Michael Polak) of Williamstown, Mo., and sister, Nolajean Heisz of Goshen, Ind.; granddaughters, Jaymi Hudnut (Derek Murphy) of Canton, Mo., and Delainey Hudnut of Williamstown, Mo.; great granddaughters, Ava Hudnut and Eleanor “Nora” Murphy and two nephews and a niece, Garron Peacock (Brittany), Austin Heisz (Vanessa) and Lindsey VanDyke (Derek).
Funeral services held February 17, 2024. at Davis Funeral Home in Canton, Mo.
Officiating: Rev. James Leezer. Music: In the Garden by Alan Jackson, The Rose by Conway Twitty and Broken Halos by Chris Stapleton.
Pallbearers: Garron Peacock, Shawn Spurgeon, Jimmie Butler, Andy Heisz, Derek Murphy and Billy Childress. Honorary pallbearers: Mark Baker, Bill Childress, Michael Polak, Richie Polak and Austin Heisz
Burial: Forest Grove Cemetery, Canton, MO.
The family suggests memorials be made to Leslie Hudnut for the great granddaughters education fund which will be established at a later date.
