Library Features Guest Artist Osborn

February 01, 2024

On frigid winter mornings, visitors to the Canton riverfront may find local photographer Nancy Osborn, camera aimed skyward and toward the trees, capturing the grandeur and power of the majestic bald eagles in digital images. The Canton Public Library is pleased to welcome Nancy’s return to Canton Public Library as Guest Artist for the month of February. While Nancy enjoys photographing everything from flowers to landscapes to portraits, the Library’s exhibit will feature bald eagles, with all photographs taken in our tri-state area.

All are welcome to a Guest Artist Reception on Thursday, February 8 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. to meet Nancy and view her photographs. The event is sponsored by the Canton Area Arts Council, refreshments will be provided.

Nancy grew up in Quincy, IL where she became interested in photography at an early age and later served on as a yearbook staff photographer in high school. An interest in birds was also sparked in elementary school after a class assignment about goldfinches. The two interests complement each other in the creation of stunning photographs of our local birds.

Living in Florida for several years, Nancy focused on coastal and backyard birds and beaches. But back in the Midwest, her passion for eagles has taken flight. Nancy eagerly awaits the return of the eagles each winter, but admits that getting the perfect photograph takes time and patience. She estimates that sometimes she can take up to 300 photographs in one outing, and find twelve that are acceptable. When not behind the lens, Nancy works as the Library Assistant at the Canton Public Library, serves on the Lewis County Food Pantry Board, and is part of her church’s photography team.
