Shirley Darlene Davis, 84, of Kinderhook, Ill., died January 10, 2024, at Barry Healthcare and Senior Living in Barry, Ill.

Shirley was born July 5, 1939, in Hull, Ill., to Leo E. Smith and Hazel Barnard Smith.

She was married to Richard Earl Davis on April 12, 1958, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Quincy, Ill. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2007.

Survivors include her seven children, Jeanne Wigle (Chuck) of Taylor, Mo., Rick Davis (Debbie) of Kinderhook, Ill., Theresa Banner (Steven) of LaGrange, Mo., Pamela Deters (Robert) of Canton, Mo., Peggy Menz (Greg Predmore) of Kentucky, Michael Davis of Huntington, W.V., and Kimberly Pennock (Reggie) of Pittsfield, Ill.; two sisters, Marcella Davis of Payson, Ill., and Juanita Shoop (John) of Mendon, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Cindy Smith of Milwaukee, Wis.; 19 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Lester Davis; mother-in-law, Marie Davis; brother, Leo Smith; sister, Lenora Erps; three sisters-in-law, Ann Torrez, Rosie Estrada, and Donna Randsell; brother-in-law, Kenneth Davis; and two grandchildren, Arron Long, and Stephanie Deters.

Shirley was a homemaker. She took great pride in raising her seven children.

Shirley enjoyed sewing and crocheting, shopping, collecting angels and playing cards. She loved watching and following St. Louis Cardinals baseball. A wonderful cook, Shirley made the best Sunday dinners that always included her famous fried chicken. In her younger years, traveling with her husband, brought her joy. Together they enjoyed trips to New York, Lake of the Ozarks, and the Redwood Forrest in California. Above all, Shirley cherished every moment spent with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Shirley was Catholic by faith and was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Barry, IL and later became a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Hannibal, Mo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 15, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Hannibal, Mo.  Fr. Alex Gabriel will officiate. Visitation that will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Monday at the church. Pallbearers will be Shirley’s grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Shirley’s granddaughters.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Quincy, Ill. 

The family is being served by the James O’Donnell Funeral Home of Hannibal, Mo.
