WILLIAM (BILL) JOHNSTON

William (Bill) Michael Johnston, age 70, of Maywood, Mo., died September 25, 2023 at 9:55 a.m. in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Ill.
He was born January 6, 1953 in Quincy, Ill., a son of Gilmer Junior and Doris Lucille Stark Johnston.
Bill was a lifelong resident of Maywood and had worked for his uncle Glen at Schroder Solid Waste in LaGrange and had also been a route carrier for the Quincy Herald Whig for a number of years. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, race cars and drag races, mowing the grass, throwing horseshoes, tinkering, and delivery paper to all of his customers. He liked to eat pizza with his family and especially the Jeff’s special at Gem City in Quincy.
Survivors include his children, William Christopher (Kim) Johnston of Lewistown, Diana (Sam) DeMoss of LaGrange, Mo., and Dustin Johnston of Palmyra, Mo.; step mother, Donna Johnston of Maywood; several grandchildren including, Lauren Johnston, Addie Johnston, Steven Johnston, Cody (Karlie Watt) Gower, Dallas (Gage) Wilkey, Brady Wilkey, Kayla Johnston, Madison Johnston and Alexandria Johnston; step grandchildren, Samantha DeMoss and Joseph DeMoss; great grandchildren; Colson Gower and Nova DeMoss; brother, Danny (Jennie) Johnston of Maywood; step brother, Bill (Dawn) Wagner of Maywood and step sister, Gina (Kenneth) Heinecke of LaPraire, Ill.; two uncles, Glen Schroder of LaGrange and Larry Schroder of Maywood and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one great nephew Evan Johnston, four uncles and one aunt.
A special thank you goes to his niece Keely Wagner Wheeler for her help in arranging pictures and memorabilia for the visitation and memorial service.
Services will be held Monday, October 2, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing with Rev. Elmer Hagood officiating. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5:30 p.m. until time of services in the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials be made to his daughter, Diana DeMoss to help defray final cost.
