LOIS HINTON

Mrs. Lois Hinton, 83, of Lewistown, Mo., died September 14, 2023 at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, Mo.

Lois was born January 6, 1940 to Raymond VanMeter and Elaine (Silvey) VanMeter in Kirksville, Mo. She was united in marriage to David Bruce Hinton on December 28, 1958 in Canton, Mo.
Lois was a graduate of Lewistown High School and Gem City Business College in Quincy. She was employed as Secretary to the Superintendent of the Lewis County School District for many years. Before retirement she was employed by Heimer Construction of Taylor, MO. After Bruce was discharged from the Army, they moved to his family farm at Monticello, MO until his health failed in 2019. At that time they purchased a home in Lewistown.

Lois attended Lewistown Baptist Church. She was very active with her children’s activities while growing up with school, baseball, softball, 4-H and FFA. Lois enjoyed many Cardinals baseball games with Bruce and playing golf. Mom especially liked playing golf with the girls on Mondays; Taco Tuesdays with her family and friends; playing cards; and attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s activities. She was an MU Extension Master Knitter and loved to read. She enjoyed spending time with her large family and many friends. After retirement, Bruce and Lois enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and Hawaii, and summers on the farm.

Survivors include daughter Vanessa Miller (Jim) of Kirksville, Mo., and son Richard D. (Sharon) Hinton of Canton, Mo. She had four grandchildren that she loved dearly; Janna (Dustin) Ingram of Brookfield, Mo., Justin Miller of Kirksville, Mo., Clayton Hinton of Monticello, Mo, Tyler Hinton of Canton, Mo., and Jason Miller of Pacific, Mo. She also dearly loved her three great grandchildren Kyle Hinton, Allison Ingram and Lucas Ingram. Lois is also survived by her twin sister Louise Perkins of Cape Carteret, N.C.; brothers Mike (Jeanette) VanMeter and Roger (Janis) VanMeter of Lewistown, Mo., and sister Phyllis (Wes) Segawa of Hilo, Hawaii; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of over 62 years, Bruce, and brother-in-law Larry Perkins.

Funeral Services were held September 17, 2023 at the Lewistown Baptist Church with Pastor Tony Stottlemyre officiating.

Visitation was held prior to services. Pallbearers: Clayton Hinton, Tyler Hinton, Justin Miller, Dustin Ingram, Jason Miller, Craig Perkins, and Darin VanMeter

Burial was in Monticello Cemetery, Monticello, Mo.
The family suggests memorials be made to Hadley’s Hope.
