DR. ROBERT ‘BOB’ SADLER

Dr. Robert Allen “Bob” Sadler died August 24, 2023 at his home in rural Monticello, Missouri at age 77 and is now flying high amongst the Cosmos. He was born on January 16, 1946, in Springfield, Illinois, grew up there, and graduated from Springfield High School. He played baseball, was in the Order of DeMolay, and was very active in Scouting. He was an Eagle Scout and a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow.
Bob attended Missouri Science and Technology in Rolla, Missouri and graduated with a degree in Physics. While in college he worked as a Ranger for five summers at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. After college, he enrolled for graduate studies at the University of Wyoming where he was awarded an MS and a PhD in Physics. He also studied Computer Science at Northern Arizona University and Colorado State University and graduated from a Law Enforcement Academy for National Park Rangers. Bob had an insatiable appetite for learning and had a great respect for passing his knowledge on to his students.
He was employed in college-level teaching at the University of Wyoming, Eastern Wyoming College and since 1991, at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. In the latter capacity, Bob has taught classes in computer science and various science areas. He especially appreciated the camaraderie and intellectual diversity of the Culver campus. He is perhaps best known in the community for his Astronomy talks at local parks and recreation centers.
He also worked, in the 1990’s, as a summer National Park Ranger at Fort Laramie National Historic Site and Yellowstone National Park where he performed duties ranging from park interpretation to law enforcement and EMS.
Bob has been married to the love of his life, Joann (nee Hensley) for 31 years. They have two daughters, Rachelle Ware of Monticello, Mo. and Danielle Mcaffee of Cheyenne, Wyoming, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Penny Farris of Monticello, Mo. and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob and Joann have enjoyed hiking, climbing, and exploring in the mountains of the western United States, landscaping and developing their residence in Lewis County, Mo. and hosting memorable Halloween parties.
Bob was preceded in passing by his parents, Cletus and Dorothy Sadler, and his sisters, Pauline Pope and Imogene Rutter, all of Springfield, Illinois.
Fly high my beloved, you will be sorely missed.
