August 09, 2023

Zita Robertson, Canton, Mo., will be recognized at Wakonda State Park in northeast Missouri, Friday, August 11, 2023 for her design of a trailside interpretive sign for the park. The sign features Zita’s text and artwork with a QR code to additional information online featuring birds, other animals and plants found in the habitats at the park.

Production and installation of the sign was facilitated as a project administered and funded through the Missouri Birding Society, and partners Missouri Young Birders Club, Missouri River Bird Observatory, and Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks.

A full day of activities at Wakonda State Park will celebrate Zita’s achievement of the sign design and her work earning her award as the 2022 American Birding Association Young Birder of the Year.

An 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. bird walk led by Zita will kick off the day’s activities. The walk will begin at Shelter No. 2. A tram will be available for those who do not wish to walk.

All are invited and encouraged to bring a dish to share at the noon potluck picnic at Shelter #2. A charcoal grill will be available to prepare hot items.

The highlight of the day will be the 2:00 p.m. sign dedication ceremony. Division of State Parks Director David Kelly will speak.
