The American Legion, Department of Missouri Distinguished Legionnaire Sward is awarded to living members of The American Legion who have rendered and continue to render outstanding and even sacrificial service to The American Legion and its programs, “For God and Country.”
Robert “Bob” Maddox served in the US Army during the Vietnam era by being drafted in 1968 and served our great nation honorably for over six years.  Bob joined the American Legion becoming a member of the Ethel Memorial Post in l971 and later transferring to Callao Argonne Memorial Post 360 in 1896.  Legionnaire Maddox has served Post 360 as the Commander from 2003 until present; he was instrumental in chartering a SAL Squadron in 2013 and serves as the adjutant for the squadron.  Bob also serves as the Director of American Legion Riders Chapter 57.
Legionnaire Maddox has served the Department as the First District Commander from 2015-2017 where he received awards for the highest district membership within the Department of Missouri.  Legionnaire Maddox has served the Department of Missouri as Zone 1 Vice Commander from 2017-2022 where he received numerous awards for highest membership in the state.  Bob has served as the sub-committee chair for past Department Commander Kellett; he serves on the Boys State Committee, Economic Committee, Scholarship Committee, and the Membership Committee.
Legionnaire Maddox has represented the Department of Missouri as a delegate to the National Convention and serves on the National Americanism Committee.
Legionnaire Maddox initiated and continues to participate in the annual Memorial Day Services for Post 36, Veteran’s Day Programs at three schools, flag rising at area events, leads area parades with Colors and Legion Float, and held flag disposals ceremonies at five area schools.  Bob has participated in Post 360’s annual fish fry fundraisers to send candidates to Boys & girls state.  Bob provides assistance to the Mexico Veterans Home at its annual fishing day.  Legionnaire Maddox serves as President of the Assistance League of Missouri State Cemetery of Jacksonville.  Bob has participated in forty-seven military honor primarily at the Missouri State Cemetery.
Legionnaire Maddox was instrumental in getting Post 360’s building donated to them.  He and other Legionnaires went to work donating time and money to renovate the building to meet the Post needs.  In spring of 2019, Bob applies for a $2,000 MFA Grant to help defray the cost of renovating a new room for the Auxiliary to meet privately at Post 360.
In recognition of Legionnaire Maddox continuous devotion to Argonne Memorial Post 360 was nominated by the regular membership of Post 360 and the First District of The American Legion Department of Missouri as Distinguished Legionnaire of the year.
