WILMA E. MAPLES

Mrs. Wilma E. Maples, age 94, of Quincy, Ill., formerly of Canton, Mo., passed away Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
She was born July 6, 1928 at home near LaGrange, Mo, a daughter of Homer Lee Cox and Elizabeth Wilhelmina Caroline Gnuse Cox. She married the love of her life, Richard Maples on October 1, 1949 in LaGrange, Mo.
Wilma attended Gem City College and Quincy Conservatory of Music. She worked at Gates Radio, did a short stint at the Pentagon while Richard was in military training in Washington, DC, and worked at Canton State Bank retiring in 1990 after 35 years of service.
Wilma was a member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in La Grange, Mo., where she served as organist for over 60 years; a position she accepted on a temporary basis. She enjoyed playing cards with friends, making chocolate chip cookies for friends, playing the organ and piano, working around the farm and spending time with family and friends. She and Richard were pleased to be able to live on the same family farm for 66 years.
Survivors include son, Donald (Peggy) Maples of Edmond, Okla.; daughter, Shirley (Chuck) Eckhoff of Quincy, Ill.; grandchildren, Megan (Daniel) Ebbert of Edmond, Okla., Christopher (Amanda) Maples of Edmond, Okla., Joshua (Kathy) Whitley of Roscoe, Ill., Jason (Theresa) Whitley of St. Louis, Mo., and Kirstin (Nathan) Orr of Quincy, Ill.; great grandchildren, Samuel Ebbert, Riley and Cooper Maples, Silas and Faye Whitley and Kale and Kruz Eckhoff.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers Jimmy and Homer Cox and sister June Englehorn.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in LaGrange, Mo., with Pastor Jacob Hercamp officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in LaGrange, Mo.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Davis Funeral home in Canton, Mo.
The family suggests memorials be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, LaGrange, Mo., or charity of the Donor’s choice.
