JAMES EDWARD HARDIN

June 07, 2023

James Edward “Edd” Hardin, 83, of Canton, Mo., died June 5, 2023 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy surrounded by his wife and daughters.

Edd was born July 4, 1939 at Canton Hospital in Canton Missouri, the son of Bigger James and Virginia Mae (Miller) Hardin. On September 2, 1980, he was united in marriage to Marcia L. Kirchner at Palmyra, Mo.

Edd graduated from Canton High School in 1957 and then attended and graduated from Culver-Stockton College. For many years he worked in the family business in Canton, Hardin Oil Co., and Hardin Service Station, before opening his own real estate office, Hardin Realty, in Canton. Edd was widely known around the Tri-State area for his kindness, fairness, and his ability to make anyone laugh. His sense of humor and his belief that a handshake seals the deal helped Hardin Realty be a successful real estate business for over 25 years! Edd was most famously known for his Bloody Mary’s and that secret recipe, which have been enjoyed by many over his lifetime. In his later years, Edd could be found sitting on his back porch or deck with Marcia enjoying the sounds of nature or a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game while watching over his beloved grand-dog, Roscoe.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia, and four daughters, Pamela Martz of Canton, Cheryl (Michael) Hall of Lenexa, Kan., Tricia (William) Madsen of Overland Park, Kan., and Leslie (Corey) Moon of Canton; brother, Robert J. Hardin and Janet Stoerger of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren, Joey (Emma) Martz of Clinton, Iowa Cory Martz and fiancé Maddie Kirchner of Canton, Mo, Katy (Konrad) Sowizral of Kirksville, Mo and Abby Martz and R.J. Flynn of Pullman WA, Graham Madsen of Overland Park, Kan., and Bria Moon of Macon; and two great-grandchildren, Isabella Martz and Eleanor Martz of Clinton, Ia., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Patsy Cartwright, mother-in-law Nancy Kirchner, father-in-law Clarence Kirchner, brother-in-law Jack Cartwright, sister-in-law Cathy Hunziker, brother-in-law Carl Kirchner and niece Ginny Goan.
