TEDDY SHEAR

June 07, 2023

Teddy Simon Shear, 73 of rural Maywood, Missouri died June 2, 2023 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. He was born on November 21, 1949 in rural LaGrange, Missouri the fifth child of Charles William and Mary Elizabeth Miller Shear.

Teddy started school at age five in a one room country school called Sudduth. The family moved several times during his school years. He graduated from LaGrange High School in 1968. He served in the U.S. Army from 1970-1972 as a Specialist 4 Company Clerk in South Korea near the DMZ line for a 220-man company. He also served as head mail clerk during that time. He lived in Quincy, Illinois for a while before he moved to rural Maywood where he lived most of his life. He worked at Motorola, Quincy Soybean for 23 1/2 years in the soybean unloading (Silo Department) where he graded grain, weighed trucks and rail cars. He was also a crew leader during most of those years. He left Quincy Soybean to pursue his dream of being self-employed, which he did for six years, rebuilding pallets and selling firewood throughout the area.

He grew up without the luxuries of electricity and running water. Instead, he learned to improvise to get things done. As a result of his upbringing, he was a hard worker, evidence by the many jobs he did on the family farm and for nearby neighbors. He was known for his ability to buck bales, throw them into barn lofts after loading and unloading them off wagons all day in 90-degree weather.

He gave his heart to the Lord Jesus Christ when he was eight years old. He was known for his love of Jesus, and he shared his faith for many years by working in all areas of the church, being a Sunday School Teacher, doing street ministry and by financially supporting various ministries and evangelists. He also supported worldwide ministries that used both radio and television to spread gospel, and those that printed gospel booklets and Bibles. Although Teddy will be missed on Earth, he was welcomed into Heaven.

He really enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He did so by going hunting or fishing with them or by attending pizza parties, fish fries or church events with them.

He is survived by two brothers, James Shear of Lewistown, Mo. and Gary (Vivian) Shear of Quincy, Ill.; three sisters, Brenda De Bow of Cedar Rapids, Ia., Diana Shear of Lewistown, Mo. and Donna Boling of Durham, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Linda Shear and Loretta Barrett.
