Charles Hurley Brown, 82, of Quincy, Ill., died January 25, 2023 at Willow Care Nursing Home in Hannibal, Mo.

He was born May 17, 1940 in Keokuk, Ia., a son of Albert Lee and Viola Mae Boone Brown. He married Betty Jane Nelson on August 19, 1980 in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.

Charlie was a 1958 graduate of Canton High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 until 1960. He was a member of the Gold Wing Riders Association and Immanuel United Methodist Church in Canton. Charlie was a CNA at the Illinois Veterans Home for 23 years retiring in 2001. He then worked at HyVee on 14th and Harrison for 16 years.

He enjoyed watching Wrestling and Cardinal Baseball, he also enjoyed Antique Cars and riding his motorcycle with Betty.

Survivors include his wife Betty Brown of Quincy; step daughters, Deanna (Keni) Griffin of Quincy, Arnetta Gauch of Hannibal and Mary Hardy and (Kevin) of Hannibal; step son, John Shelburne of Quincy; step grandchildren, Otis (Jerica) Gauch, Chuckie Lee (Rachel) Murphy, Robert Lee (Sarah) Murphy, Tana (Ryan) Darnell, Lance (Amanda) Gauch, Rachel Doran and Joshua (Amanda) Hardy; 18 step great grandchildren and one step great great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Canton with Rev. Dawn Gerard officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Pallbearers: Colby Graham, Cayden Graham, Carter Doran, Tyler Hardy, Joshua Hardy and Ivan Hicks. Music provided by: Betty and Martin Miller, “Where Can I Go” and “The Old Rugged Cross”
Burial with military honors will be in Kahoka Cemetery, Kahoka, Mo., at 1:00 p.m.
The family suggest memorials be made to Immanuel United Methodist Church in care of Davis Funeral Home, Canton, Mo.
