RICHARD MAPLES

Mr. Richard Edward Maples, 93, of Quincy, Ill., formerly of Canton, Mo., died December 11, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.
He was born March 3, 1929 at home near Canton, Mo., a son of Carl Edward and Anna Rowe Maples. He married the love of his life, Wilma Cox on October 1, 1949 in LaGrange, Mo. She survives.
Richard worked multiple jobs before being drafted by the Army and serving two years in Korea with the Corps of Engineers from January 1952 until December 1953. After his discharge he continued his career with the Missouri State Highway Department retiring in 1991 after 42 years of service.
Richard was a member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in LaGrange, Mo. He enjoyed playing cards, operating his bulldozer, working on the farm and spending time with family and friends. He and Wilma were blessed to be able to live on the same family farm for 66 years.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma of Quincy; son, Donald (Peggy) Maples of Edmond, Okla.; daughter, Shirley (Chuck) Eckhoff of Quincy, Ill.; grandchildren, Megan (Daniel) Ebbert of Edmond, Okla., Christopher (Amanda) Maples of Edmond, Okla., Joshua (Kathy) Whitley of Roscoe, Ill., Jason (Theresa) Whitley of St. Louis, Mo., and Kirstin (Nate) Orr of Quincy, Ill.; great grandchildren, Samuel Ebbert, Riley and Cooper Maples, Silas and Faye Whitley and Kale and Kruz Eckhoff.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Glen and Wayne Maples and sister Louise Maples Feldkamp.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in LaGrange, Mo., with Pastor Jacob Hercamp officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton, Mo. Music: Alice Lee Solter, pianist. Pallbearers will be: Christopher Maples, Joshua Whitley, Jason Whitley, Nate Orr, Peter Cox and Daniel Ebbert.
Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in LaGrange, Mo. The family suggests memorial be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, LaGrange, Mo., or charity of the Donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left at www.davis-fh.com.
