Sgt. Welch Awarded Medal

December 08, 2022

The US Department of the Army awarded Sergeant Daniel E. Welch, Bravo Company, 2D Infantry Division, the Army Achievement Medal on Sept. 30, 2022.

During Nakoa Fleek, as mortar squad leader, Sgt. Welch’s professionalism, initiative and dedication to duty, greatly contributed to the overall success of the unit. Over the course of Nakoa Fleek, Sgt. Welch displayed superior and tactical proficiency. While operating independently of the mortar section leader, during split section operations, Sgt. Welch was able to provide timely and accurate fires in support of the Bravo Companies defense, movement to combat and brigade attach lanes, all while never being compromised. Sgt. Welch also assisted in the emplacement of an 81mm mortar, which is a battalion level asset. Welch’s performance during the brigade attack, aided the Bravo company mortar section to conduct two fire missions onto OBJ Crow resulting in the destruction of an entire enemy platoon with 40 confirmed EKIA preventing an effective counter attack on OBJ PITT east and west.

Sgt. Welch’s actions greatly contributed to the overall success of Bravo Company and the “Gimlet” Battalion’s mission. His professionalism, excellence and leadership were invaluable to the success of the unit’s mission.

His actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the “Gimlet” Battalion, the “Warrior” Brigade, the “Tropic” Lightning” Division and the United States Army. In addition, Sgt. Welch has set conditions for Bravo Company’s CBRN Room to excel at the Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness capability, incorporating TNG for detection equipment.

SGT. Welch is the son of Dennis and Patti Welch of Canton, Mo.
