VIRGIL E. CARLIN

Virgil E. Carlin, 83, of Durham, Mo., died Feb. 15, 2016 at Country Aire Retirement Estates in Lewistown, Mo.

He was born August 1, 1932 in Williamstown, Mo., a son of Ray and Waneta Forquer Carlin. He married Rosemary Carlin on Dec. 30, 1978 in Memphis, Mo. She died July 20, 2010.

Virgil loved to play with his dog Tikki and garden. He was also an avid reader and liked to whittle. Virgil was always there to lend a helping hand to all of his neighbors. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. Virgil was the neighborhood handyman and always carried a pair of pliers. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was a Tug Boat Pilot and Truck Driver for many years. He was also a member and past commander of the American Legion Post 37 of Quincy, Ill.

Survivors include his children, Roger Pruitt, Ferguson, Mo., Denise Sparks, Tammy (Steve Hudnut) Willing and Gene Hickman, all of Durham; Rose and Carl Trueblood, Memphis, Mo., Kevin and Roxanne Carlin, Canton, Pam and Roy Morss. Farmington, Iowa, Robert and Tammy Carlin, La Grange, Waneva Marriott, Maryville, Mo.; two brothers, Larry (Arlene) Carlin, Kahoka, and John (Brenda) Carlin, Hannibal; numerous grandchildren including Casi (Adam) Kethart Heather (David) Mitchell, Ashley Pruitt, Mathew Pruitt, Amanda (Eddie) Helton, Dustin Chatfield, Tabitha Sparks, Kelsey Sparks, Adam Hickman, Leerona Willing, Cassie Hudnut and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosemary; son, Lonnie Carlin; two sisters, Wilma Smith and Ilene Stewart and a brother Clarence Carlin.

Graveside services and Military Honors were held February 20, 2016 at the Durham Cemetery in Durham, Mo., with Rev. Elmer Hagood officiating.
