Nutrition Center Needs Volunteers

The Lewis County Nutrition Center, part of Heartland Resources, is in need of funding and volunteers. Due to many funding cuts over the years, the Nutrition Center is struggling to keep going.
The Lewis County Nutrition Center provides meals for senior citizens, homebound individuals, and others who depend on the hot meal to survive. Heartland Resources, which oversees the Center, helps adults age with dignity and independence by providing meals and in-home support.
Board member Judge Corey Moon said, “ Volunteers can call the office at 573-209-3600. We are needing volunteers Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to work in the kitchen and deliver meals. The kitchen runs from about 6a.m.-2 p.m. cooking and packaging the meals, cleaning up, and preparing for the next day.
Meal deliveries take place from Ewing to all the communities in the county. They are usually ready for pickup in Ewing between 10-1030 and the distribution routes take anywhere from 1-3 hours. We need volunteers for deliveries in all communities, including: Canton, Ewing, LaBelle, LaGrange, Lewistown, Maywood, and Monticello.”
Board members include Corey Moon, Brad Davis, Roy Lewis, Vicki Chandler, Mont Corbin, Linda Lueckenhoff, Wilma Attebery, Chris Vaughn, and Dorothy Yackley.
Moon said, “ We are trying to depend more on volunteers for financial reasons. We believe it can be successful, but we need help from dedicated community members to make it work. The Board members and our remaining staff have been keeping it going for now.”
All volunteers are welcome, and any amount of time someone can give is also welcome. The annual Thanksgiving dinner is being planned the week of Thanksgiving.
Heartland Resources is located at 108 East Main Street in Ewing, Mo. The phone number is 573-209-3600. The Ewing Nutrition Site is located at 101 W. Bryan Street in Ewing
