BRIDIE SCHLOTTER

August 24, 2022

Bridie Lee Edna (Kearns) Schlotter, 50 of Canton, Missouri died August 15, 2022 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Il.

The daughter of Monty Leon Kearns and Yvonne Marie (Phillips) Dudgeon was born on February 21, 1972 at Keokuk, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to her loving and devoted husband Matthew Schlotter on September 21, 2012 at Quincy, Illinois. Along with her dog, Mergie, they became the perfect family.

Bridie was proud of her Catholic faith. She was a 1990 graduate of Canton R-V High School. She attended Culver-Stockton College for 2 years then transferred and graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on May 13, 1995 from the College of Health Services with a B.S. Degree in Health Care Administration. While attending UNLV, she continued to be on the Dean’s list and was chosen from a field of 23 applicants for 1 of 6 positions available to UNLV Health Care Admin Majors, being chosen based on interview with health care professors at the college along with her personal grades. At the conclusion of that semester, she traveled to Ely, Nevada where she spent an all expenses paid week at a hospital and a nursing home where she became the administrator for that week. After her formal education she was employed by several reputable nursing homes in the surrounding communities in administration capacity. She achieved many goals in that area of nursing and wanted to have a more hands on approach with her profession. She furthered her education by attending Hannibal-LaGrange University, where she attained her LPN designation. At the time of her death, she was working toward her RN degree at John Wood Community College. With only two classes to complete her degree, she continued working full time at Blessing Health System, all while battling two years of cancer.
She liked to read books, take pictures and go on vacations with her husband. She was a gifted athlete, playing softball, basketball and swim team in her youth and an avid Miami Dolphins fan. Bridie and Matt were dog parents to Mergie. Her nephews were her everything and her niece Tatum, like a sister. She enjoyed going to the farm and riding the tractor with Matt. She was a strong believer in the 2nd Amendment and she loved her unsweet tea and pickles. Did we mention she didn’t like to cook? Don’t let her cook!

She is survived by her husband Matthew C. Schlotter of Canton, Mo.; her parents, Monty L. Kearns of Canton, Mo. and Yvonne M. Dudgeon of Canton, Mo.; her niece, Tatum Marie Kearns of Canton, Mo.; great nephews, Nolan Childress, Ashton Washburn and Briston Washburn; father-in-law, Mark (Barb) Schlotter of Canton, Mo. and mother-in-law, Judy Schlotter and Tom Reis of Ames, Iowa; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Brandie Lynn June Kearns, fur baby Mergie, grandparents, Virgil (Veva) Kearns, Jr., David Nathan (Edna) Phillips, Sr., Fred (Jessie) Schlotter and John (Marjorie) Boyd, and several aunts and uncles.
