GERTRUDE MAHONEY

Gertrude Ann Mahoney, 91, of Leonard, MO, died June 22, 2021 at Salt River Community Care in Shelbina, Mo.

Gertrude was born September 14, 1930 in Sioux Falls, ID to Earl H and Mary Elizabeth (Gordon) Smith. She attended Steffenville and Lewistown Schools and graduated high school at Edina schools where her father was superintendent. Following college, she taught elementary classes in Hannibal and Lees Summit School District for many years.

Gertrude was united in marriage to Louis Edward Mahoney on December 21, 1952 in Shelbina, Mo. They were married for 68 years. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2020.

Gertrude was a member of Leonard Christian Church and a past secretary for the Dorcus women’s group. She enjoyed playing piano, gardening, and was an avid reader. She especially loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by one daughter, Becky Jansen (Travis) of Blue Springs, Mo.; three grandchildren, Amy Martin (Ryan) of Grain Valley, Mo., Josh Launius (Anna) of Leonard, Mo.; Jared Launius (Chelsea) of Madison, Wis.; seven great-grandsons; and brother, E.H. Smith (Judy) of Lewistown, Mo.

A memorial service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Leonard Christian Church in Leonard, Mo. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 5 pm-7 pm at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, Mo.

Burial be at Cherry Box Cemetery in Cherry Box, Mo.
