GEORGENE BUTLER

Georgene Elizabeth Butler, 92, of Canton, Mo., died April 17, 2022 in the Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton.

She was the only child of William Augustus Horn and Josie Lavonne McGhee Horn and was born January 16, 1930 in Canton, Mo. She married Cleve Smith Butler on November 6, 1948 in Canton, they had two daughters. He passed away on August 11, 1983.
She was a lifelong resident of Canton, Missouri. She graduated from Canton R-V High School. Following High School, she worked as a part-time Canton City Clerk. Then, became the fulltime Canton City Clerk for many years. She retired as a secretary for Ayers Oil Co. In her retirement, she worked for J. Patrick Wheeler law firm. She served her community over the years, by being a board member, for many organizations.

She was a very selfless, kind, and non-materialistic person. She loved everyone and they loved her. Her family always came first. She will be missed by all that knew her. She was always tireless and never complained about her huge responsibilities in life.

She is survived by her daughter, Lu Ann Briscoe of Jamesport, Mo. Grandchildren, Jimmie Butler, Micah Briscoe Landes, Steve Merrell, and Kelly Merrell. five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Georgene was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter Mildred Jonell (Mickey) Merrell.

Graveside services and burial will be held Thursday, April 21, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton with Pastor Dawn Gerard officiating. Pallbearers: Jimmie Wayne Butler, Steven William Merrell, Mahlon Lee Briscoe, Dylan Butler, Dalton Vannaken and Luke Merrell.
