CARLENE SHOOP

November 03, 2021

Carlene L. Shoop, 100, of Maywood, Mo., died October 31, 2021 at Lewis County Nursing Home in Canton, Mo. Carlene was born August 29, 1921, in Bowen, Ill., to Henry R. and Emma J. (Ehmen) Gronewold.

She was married to Hubert A. Shoop on August 10, 1942 in Palmyra, Mo. He preceded her in death on March 29, 2013.

Carlene and her sister ran an upholstery shop in Quincy for many years. She was previously employed by Quincy Speaker and later by Motorola.

A talented artist, Carlene’s favorite style of art was free-handed China painting. She enjoyed it so much that she would travel to conventions dedicated to China painting. When she wasn’t painting, Carlene could be found in her garden where she grew green beans, tomatoes, corn, and several different kinds of flowers. Carlene also enjoyed cooking large meals, and she continued to make big holiday feasts for her family well into her 80’s. Carlene also liked shopping trips with her sisters to St. Louis and Springfield, nightly bowls of popcorn, and having WTAD on all the time. Carlene will be remembered as an artist, amazing hostess, and a woman without a mean bone in her body.

Carlene was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Wiesemann of LaGrange, Mo.; five grandchildren, Carol Wiesemann of La Grange, Mo., Gary Wiesemann of Maywood, Mo., Jason Shoop of Maywood, Mo., Theresa Jarland of Rochester, MN, and Jamie Schroder (Lisa) of Maywood, Mo.; eight great-grandchildren, Michael Wiesemann, Megan Wiesemann, Sierra Schroder, Devin Schroder, Randi Sparrow (Jeremy), Justin Jarland, Jared Jarland, and Ryan Schroder; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
