James Luke Cottrell, 70 of rural Ewing, Missouri died September 27, 2021 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

The son of James R. and Carol W. Wilson Cottrell was born on July 7, 1951 in rural Knox County, Missouri.

He was united in marriage to Kathy Jo Simmons on July 7, 1984 at Ewing, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2008.

Luke liked to watch old western movies and be outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and feeding all the wild animals. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was proud to share a birthday with his grandson, Mason.

He is survived by his children, Christopher (Helen) Simmons of Palmyra, Mo., Carman Cottrell of Quincy, Ill., James (Brandy) Cottrell of Quincy, Ill., Cory (Kelsey) Cottrell of Ewing, Mo., and Candis Cottrell (Matt Fletcher) of Lewistown, Mo.; grandchildren, Laina Simmons, Laden Simmons, Lennox Simmons, Mason Cottrell, Tatum Cottrell, Ayden Kelso, James Owen Cottrell, Naviah Cottrell, Braelyn Fletcher and Bailey Fletcher; sisters, Winnie McKenzie of Lewistown, Mo. and Brenda (Larry) White of LaGrange, Mo.; brothers, John (Carolyn) Cottrell of LaBelle, Mo., Frank (Gail) Cottrell of Canton, Mo., and Daniel Cottrell of Lewistown, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Mark Cottrell and Marty Cottrell, and a brother in law, Jerry McKenzie.

Funeral services were held October 2, 2021 a at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Lewistown with Pastor Jason Geisendorfer officiating. Pallbearers: Frank Cottrell, John Cottrell, Daniel Cottrell, Mason Cottrell, Laden Simmons and David Simmons. Honorary Pallbearers: Mike Whan, James Owen Cottrell, Ayden Kelso, Lennox Simmons and Bill Runquist.

Burial was in the Lewistown Cemetery.
