Highland Cross Country Relay

September 29, 2021

The Highland Cross Country team completed their 12-hour relay on September 18 and the team amassed 112 miles during their relay. This event was held as a fundraiser for the Highland Cross Country program and the runners are currently collecting donations. People could donate a set amount per total mile accumulated or offer a flat donation. If anyone is still interested in donating to the Highland Cross Country program, please contact one of the coaches or runners.

The Varsity squad competed in the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia on Sept. 25. This is the site of the State Cross Country Championship races held in early November. Coach French said, “We are nursing some injuries, so did not have a full team score; however, we did have some great performances.” French was excited that Sophomore Kaycie Stahl set a new personal best with a 23:22 5k race time, which also marked the Lady Cougars best time recorded on the State Championship course to date. “She shattered her old PR,” exclaimed French. Sophomore Gage Rudd also improved his time from last year on the same course by 2 minutes. Senior Elizabeth Frisbie also showed some great improvement from last year, lowering her time by a little over 1 minute.

The Varsity and JH Cougars head to Elsberry to compete on Sept. 27, followed by a Varsity only competition at Moberly on Sept. 30.
