Loretta Bringer

Our Sunday is another beautiful summer day. It is time for school to start and we are supposed to have some hot days again starting tomorrow and that usually happens the first week of school. Do pray for the safety and health of our staff, teachers, and children as another year starts.

We extend sympathy to the family of Joan Powers of Durham. She was a lady with a heart for her community and Lord and had a loving family. She leaves many relatives in our immediate area, and we appreciate all of Joan’s contributions to others.

We have additional occupants on our farm and in the pond. Beavers do not make good neighbors and certainly not on your pond levees and banks. Bobby had spoke with the Conservation Department and is the process of moving them on, but they are leaving damage behind to repair. I remember when beavers first were in Missouri and my father, who was well known for his hunting and trapping abilities, started to trap them. He made round webs to stretch the hides on and sold the furs. I remember deer being brought in too and now I probably will say that about bears soon. I enjoy and like the wildlife, however, it does seem it is hard for us to live together!

I do hope you saw the beautiful moon Saturday evening as it was coming up. It is a reminder that the harvest moon season is near. With all the beautiful greenery and growth, it also reminds us of a long allergy season.

I spoke with my sister, Alice Shoemaker, on her birthday Saturday and she and her husband are staying in Shreveport, LA to be of help to their son, Jerel, who is 51 and has terminal cancer. I asked about him going to the hospital and she said they are so full he would not be admitted.

With school starting this is good advice for all of us – Children may close their eyes to advice, but they open their eyes to example. Let us throw kindness around like confetti.

Happy Birthday to my friend, Vicki Kuhlmeier on Wednesday, August 15th. She and Mark owned Kuhly’s in Quincy and he recently retired, and his son, Colby is now the owner.

Someone we all know in the area is celebrating a birthday on Sunday, August 29th. Kevin Meany, our mail carrier will be having a birthday and we wish him many more birthdays. He is so helpful to folks and can be counted on to get the mail delivered. Thank you Kevin and have a fun day!
