Well, got through this week and it’s been a calm week, except for all of the positive testing of Covid in the county, so Don and I have stayed close to the house, though we’ve both had Covid last November and shots in December, but not taking any chances at our age. We cancelled our reunion that was supposed to be August 8.

The month of August is the month of fairs in this area. When we were kids, my dad liked going to the Mendon fair, he always liked the horse race the best. Now gambling was something he never would do. He said it was a trait of some of his ancestors and wouldn’t even touch a deck of cards. My Mom was the one who taught us kids to play cards. But dad loved picking the winner of horse races. The usual group attending included our family and grandma and grandpa Shires, Travella, our cousin, Melton and Louise Shires would go to the fair that same day. Mom and Grandma made picnic lunch which was in the trunk of the car and Grandpa pickup. We all met in the fair and looked everything over. The fair was always a great family day and one of my best memories of summers in the 40s and 50s.

Now for unknown things: Where was the shipper of 300,000 pounds of rabbits one season located?
