We have had some beautiful days this week that has brought a lot of nice garden produce and many folks have been sharing their abundance with others. So many spring bush flowers are blooming again like spiraea, red quince some fruit trees. It is always fun to see the surprise lilies this time of year but rarely do the spring flowers bloom twice. Maybe some of you know what that is a sign of. I missed church this morning because of an upcoming medical procedure. Thanks to Becky White for providing the music for the service at South Union .I was sorry to learn of the death of Forrest Wayne Griesbaum of California. His parents Forrest and Jean lived in Maywood and had four boys, Danny, David, Steve, and Forrest Wayne. Steve passed away a few years ago. They were neighbors of ours when we were first married and were a lot of fun. Ola Gail was the only daughter and had a lovely voice. Forrest Wayne had lived in California with a daughter close by for several years now. He was a LaGrange High School graduate. We extend sympathy to his family.

Jack and Pete Fountain have had a great weekend. Friday, Katrina, Jeremy, Kaden, and Skye came up for the weekend. Skye attended VBS at Ewing with Grandpa and Grandma since it was held in the evening! One of the purposes of their visit was to help with a Davis, mini family reunion. They had a beautiful windy day for the picnic at Baring lake’s pavilion. Chris and Tracy Fountain of Palmyra were in attendance along with the Hunerkocks and it was great to have the entire family represented. Some went swimming, on the pontoon boat and some tubing. Two babies (18 months) that most of us had not met due to the Covid virus were there, so that was a highlight too. Pete’s older sister was unable to attend due to some possible surgery.

Maria E. Smith passed away in Centertown, Mo this week. She was a Moore and her family lived on Route P for years. She and her husband, Terry, rented a home from us for years and their boys, Lonnie and Chad went to school in Philadelphia. Both Terry and Maria were quite artistically talented and were great neighbors. Because of poor health they had been living with their sons for several years. Maria was a sweet person and had helped several people in this area with home care. She has a lot of family in the area, and we extend sympathy to them and to Terry, Lonnie, and Chad.

The Covid virus and quarantines are certainly a problem in our area and if you are like me you have a hard time recognizing some people with a mask on. I thought this was appropriate for an answer. “ If there is a smile in your heart, your eyes will show it!”

Congratulations to John and Christine Carter who will be celebrating their wedding anniversary on Wednesday, August 11.
