GARRY LEE RAYL

Garry Lee Rayl, 73, of Quincy, died August 4, 2021, at Illinois Veterans Home.

Garry was born October 26, 1947 in Monticello, Missouri, a son of James Kenneth and Rose Leone White Rayl. He married Grace M. Brookshire on November 24, 1972 in Hugo, Okla. She preceded him in death on December 24, 2003.

Garry was a 1966 graduate of LaGrange High School. Following graduation, he served in United States Marine Corps for over three years. He was discharged honorably with the rank of Sgt. E-5. Garry spent his career at Knapheide Manufacturing where he had been employed as a machinist. He retired after 42 years of service.

Garry had been a member of the LaGrange Christian Church. He then moved to the Payson Christian Church, which is now known as The Crossing.

Survivors include his fiancée, Betty E. Chapman; his daughter, Donna (LeRoy) Goodwin of Quincy, IL; his son, Dale (Rhonda) Kirby; five grandchildren: Michelle (Loune) Boualavong, Aaron (Kim) Goodwin, Teri (Anthony) Silva, Buddy Kirby, and Johnny Kirby; seven great-grandchildren: Isaac and Leah Boualavong, Katelyn Kremer, Bryliegh Goodwin, Dakota Kirby, and Amanda and Kristine Silva; his brother, Larry Rayl; and his nephew, Larry B. Rayl.

In addition to his wife, Grace, Garry was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bud Kirby; a granddaughter, Penny Sue Noble; and a brother, Richard Rayl.

Services were held August 10, 2021 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Burial was in Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois with military honors by American Legion Post 37 and the United States Marine Corps Funeral Honor Detail.
