Maywood News
By Loretta Bringer
The weather has been up and down this week. Thursday and Friday we had hot and humid days and then on Saturday I went out to empty the rain gauge and it was running over. We had six inches at our place and the cool weather moved in and we needed jackets on Sunday morning.
It seems there is a lot of illness in our church family and the attendance was down today. Our pastor, Milton Baumgardner, had a brother-in-law pass away this week. He was George Majors and lived in Hannibal.
Sheila and Aaron Drebes, Emily Drebes, and Madison Cardwell handed out popsicles at the Marion County Fair Parade in Palmyra on Saturday at the home of Rachel Bringer Shepherd. Emily will be exhibiting goats and cooking at the fair this week, and is a member of the Fabius 4-H club. The rain stopped just in time for the parade to begin at 10 am, and everyone enjoyed the cooler weather after the rain stopped.
We were sorry to learn of the death of Richard “Herky” Hamilton of Hannibal and extend sympathy to his family. Lewis County was really his home until retirement. His brother J.W. and wife Mary Ann Hamilton lived in Canton and were well known in the area until their retirement in Hannibal. Both brothers were golfers and fine men and were originally from Lewistown. The memorial service was on Monday in Lewistown.
Folks are asking me what I cooked this week and I tried a new breakfast cookie that turned out well. It would be great for children in school and contains, bacon, cran-raisins and cornflakes, etc. I try a new recipe often and if I am disappointed, it is history.
We extend sympathy to the Elsie Taylor family of Palmyra. Elsie was married to the late Buck Taylor who had spent a lot of time in Maywood growing up with Callie Johnson and Buck and his sister attended church with her. Later when Buck’s father, Ed Taylor, retired he lived here in Hester for a number of years.
I wrote about kindness last week that brought a lot of comments about how others received an act of kindness. I had another this week as a retired friend sent me some pictures from 95 thru 99. If you want to see how you have aged look at old pictures!
I was also sent a cute saying “Always be a little kinder than necessary!
