Colonel Whitaker Retires

A retirement ceremony honoring Colonel Greg D. Whitaker was held MAy 27, 2021 at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. At the time of his retirement Colonel Greg Whitaker was the director of Operations, 16th Air Force, Joint Base San Antonio, Texas. He was responsible for the operations of more than 44,000 Airmen across nine wings conduction worldwide operations. He also ensures the readiness and employment of Joint Cyber Mission Forces to conduct offensive and defensive cyber operations in service of the Air Force, combatant commands, and national agency partners. Col. Whitaker also previously served at the Vice Commander 67th Cyberspace Wing, He served as Colonel since March 2018. Among his numerous awards and decorations are Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Medal Air Force Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, combat Readiness Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

He is the son of Dan Whitaker (Ellen Goodwin) of Ewing and Vicki Whitaker of Palmyra.

He is married to Lisa (Wienbauger), daughter of Bob and Afton Wienbauger. They have three children, Garrett, Josey and Jake.

Col. Whitaker is a 1993 graduate of Highland High School and a 1997 graduate of the University of Missouri.He attended Squadron Officer School and has continued his education throughout his career. One of his best friends, Chris Childress, retired from the Air Force a few years ago. The men attended Lewis County Schools and ROTC together and both joined the Air Force.
