MARILYN L. LAY

Mrs. Marilyn L. Lay, 86, of Lewistown, Mo., died June 26, 2021 at her home near Lewistown, Mo.

Marilyn was born August 15, 1934 in Quincy, Ill., the daughter of Chester E. and Helen Shaver Shires. She married Ralph Clinton Lay on February 21, 1953 in LaGrange, Mo. He passed away May 18, 2015.

Mrs. Lay was baptized as a young woman and she is a member of the First Baptist Church of Ewing. She worked at Quincy Paper Box, was a homemaker, baby sat her grandkids and helped Ralph on the farm. She loved to embroider, sew, quilt, garden and work in her flower beds. She was involved with 4-H, bible school and had been a Sunday School Teacher.

She is survived by three children, Douglas G. (Diane), Sherri (special friend Nolan Gibson), and Colby (Tina) Lay all of Lewistown; four grandchildren Taylor (Matt) Doane, Hunter, Hannah and Holden Lay; one sister, Shirley (Ramon) Hadfield of Columbia, Mo., and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Ball-Davis Funeral Home in Ewing with Rev. Paul Milliken officiating. Pallbearers: Dean Lay, David Lay, Johnny Williams, Johnny Lay, Hunter Lay, Matt Doane, Holden Lay. Honorary Pallbearers: Tommy Lay, Morris Boska, Dr. Gene Childress, Jim Mullenix and Walter Adams (Emeritus)

Music: Paul Milliken, Elvis “Amazing Grace” & Alan Jackson “How Great Thou Art”

Burial will be in Ewing Memorial Cemetery

The family suggests memorials be made to the Ewing Memorial Cemetery or to the Hospice of Northeast Missouri.
