VEARL CLARENCE CHIPMAN

Vearl Clarence Chipman 92, of rural Maywood, Mo., went peacefully with his Lord and Savior on June 17, 2021 with his loving family by his side in his home.
Vearl was born October 5, 1928 in rural Maywood, Mo., a son of Thomas Clarence and Lessie Leoma Whitaker Chipman. He met E. Verneal Evans playing at square dances and they were married on February 20, 1960 in Quincy, Ill. She died August 25, 2014.

Vearl attended Buckhorn School and then attended Durham School until the 10th grade. He started helping on the farm and worked for other farmers in the area including Grover Gamm of rural Ewing and also at Quincy Memorial Park doing yard work until he was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1951. His basic training was at Camp Chaffey, Arkansas before he shipped out to Korea. He was discharged as a Corporal and in July 1953 he shipped home which took him 34 days at sea to arrive back home. He got to see many places, but would say “ I never want to be on another boat”! After returning home, he went back to work farming at home and for neighbors.

Vearl started work at Pepsi Cola in 1962 and continued to do farming until his retirement in May 1992. He enjoyed coon hunting, playing the fiddle with Missouri Troubadors and square dances with his wife and spending time with his family. He also hosted the “Chipman Coffe Club” on Monday mornings at his home.

Survivors include his daughter, Venita (Mike) Engle of Maywood; one step daughter, Patsy (Larry) Siwek of Quincy, Ill.; one step son, Rick Duff of Quincy; one granddaughter, who was his “sweetheart” Maegan (Jerad) Ludwig of Ewing; three great grandsons, Shaine Chipman, Brentlee Abell and Gunner Ludwig; nine step grandchildren, several step great grandchildren; two brothers, Hobart Chipman of Durham, Mo., Terry (Barbara) Chipman of Palmyra, Mo.; one sister, Doris Jean Garkie of Quincy, Ill., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 54 years Verneal, brother Larry Chipman, sisters Hazel Chipman and Elvesa Williamson and step grandson Ean Reinold.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Durham United Methodist Church in Durham, Mo. Burial with military honors will be in the Durham Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until time of services in the church.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Durham United Methodist Church or to the Durham Cemetery Association.
