DORIS LONG
Doris Jean Long, 81, Canton, Mo., entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior on January 6, 2016 in her daughter’s home. She was born November 30, 1934 in LaGrange, Mo., the daughter of Carl and Vera Wolfmeyer Rothfuss. On February 8, 1959, she married Charles Long at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Lagrange, Mo. Unto this union, God blessed them with three beautiful children. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1994
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Quincy, Ill. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, where she also raised her children up in the Christian faith. Her faith and her family were her top priorities. You could always find her in the kitchen cooking or making one of her largely requested famous pies. Sewing and shopping with her daughter, who doubled as her best friend, were other hobbies she enjoyed.
After graduating from Canton High School, Canton, Mo., and Burlington Beauty Academy, Burlington, Iowa, she worked as an assistant manager and cosmetologist at Fashion Beauty Shop, St. Louis, Mo. After marriage, she and her husband made their home on his family’s farm, where she was a farm wife and homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Steven C (Gloria) Long of Maywood, Mo., and Loren “Bub” (Kathy) Long, Canton, Mo.; a daughter, Connie Sue (William) Burton, Canton, Mo.; five grandchildren: Charles, Keith, and Nathan Long, Quincy, IL; and Zachary and Kayla Merrell, Canton, Mo.; six step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren; a sister, Darlene Jennings, O’ Fallon, Mo.; a brother, Donald (Sara) Rothfuss, Quincy, Ill.; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law, Joe Jennings, a nephew, John Jennings, and infant great granddaughter, Paityn Rae Long.
Services were held January 8, 2016 at St. James Lutheran Church with Rev. Marlin Rempfer officiating. Visitation was held prior to services.
Burial was in Forest Grove Cemetery, Canton, Mo.
