Plein Air Event in Canton

The annual Plein Air paint event will be held in Canton on May 1. The event was not held last year due to the Covid-19 crisis.

Plein Air is a French term for painting done in fresh air, outside, in any kind of weather. Participants can use any medium, watercolor, oil, acrylic or pencil, and can paint any size they want. Upon check-in the clean paper or canvas is timed stamped. The event is timed and painters have from 7 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to complete up to two paintings to exhibit for judging. Currently there are 20 artists signed up, but people can still sign up even the morning of the event.

Judging begins at 4 p.m. An exhibit for the public is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. will be at the Fourth Street Patio at Fourth and Lewis in Canton. . In case of inclement weather, the exhibit will be at Primo's Pour House, 107 N. Fourth Street. The public is welcome to come view and/or buy the paintings. The subjects of all the paintings will be the Canton area places or people.

John Preston from Fairfield, Iowa will be the 2021judge. Preston has won this Plein Air several times. He is offering a pre-contest workshop on Plein Air painting on April 20. Due to Covid restrictions, the workshop will take place at the Canton Christian Church. Everyone is invited to attend the exhibit.
